CASE STUDY: Purus
Indecision can be expensive. The wrong decision? Potentially disastrous. Purus Technologies, a Calgary-based software company, understands the importance and impact of good decisions. They know that innovative, reliable technology can be the difference between great success or lukewarm results for many companies.
Purus believes the way we think about, buy and use technology in our everyday work is ready for a quantum leap. They strive to build tools that live up to both their potential and promise. To accomplish this, they have brought together some of the most brilliant and inventive minds in the industry today to combine a new software framework with business consulting methodology. Their goal is to effectively leverage technology to deliver business value quickly. Their flagship product, DecisionSurface®, helps companies make better, more confident decisions.
There are challenges that come with pioneering original ideas and technologies. It can be difficult to find imaginative, tech-savvy talent. Purus had a vision, a product, and highly-skilled team, but in order to achieve their business goals they needed to expand. Of course, exceptionally skilled experts who can learn, master and adapt to new technologies are notoriously tough to find. Adding employees is an expensive and time-consuming process; it’s also impractical if the expertise is only required for bursts of productivity. Purus had an extremely competent team in place who could sustain the life of the product once it was complete. To keep the project on schedule, they required more fire-power. They needed access to experts without the overhead.
Purus called in Arcurve to deploy a small, experienced and motivated team to give them the extra support they required. From architecture to deployment and all aspects in between, Arcurve provides exceptional software professionals who are up to speed quickly. Arcurve specialists incorporate rapidly with existing teams to transform ideas into solutions. With access to senior technical resources from Arcurve, Purus was able to swiftly ramp up their efforts.
To take the project to the next level, Purus was using .Net framework 4.0, as well as the most current versions of WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) and WCF (Windows Communication Foundation). Always the visionaries, Purus could see a new way to use the controls that provided new ways of viewing, analyzing and presenting data. Arcurve helped bring that vision to life by providing software expertise that could adapt to new technologies and architecture with an open mind and attitude.
In addition to bringing technology expertise to bear, Arcurve instilled rigor around their software development practice, allowing for sustained and consistent productivity. When the Arcurve experts disengaged, Purus was able to easily manage and maintain the product. Purus recognized that not only was there a good technical fit, but that Arcurve took the time to ensure a seamless cultural fit. Both aspects were critical in the creation of a dynamic, productive team.
With the increased availability of expertise from Arcurve, Purus found that the time between technological research and the commercialization of the product will be significantly shorter that it would have been without an augmented team. This also allowed for key personnel within the Purus team to focus on strategic and business objectives.
When asked about Purus’ decision to involve Arcurve in the completion of their project, Jim Gibson, President of Purus Technologies, said, “Arcurve is one of the best - if not the best - software shops in Canada.”
By building an innovative product while realizing significant savings, Purus proved they know plenty about making good decisions.
