A common challenge when adding maps to an application is ensuring a consistent and professional look. We’ve used many mapping solutions (Leaflet, OpenStreetMap, CARTO, Esri, Google Maps, etc.), each providing canned maps with a variety of styles, colors, and features and customization options. Typically, we can find an option with features and styling that's 'close enough', however sometimes more customization is needed. We recently used Mapbox Studio to author (and host) a truly customized map. We changed fonts and modified every color of every feature to exactly match the application style. We chose which features to display (highways, streets, paths, and national parks) to ensure only relevant information was shown to the user, and we also overlaid custom datasets. Creating the map was simple via the Mapbox Studio web interface and the result was extremely polished and fit seamlessly into the application.
